Renault fitting notes that apply to the Latitude

  • The positive terminal on many Renaults carries a fuse block bolted to the clamp. It is lifted off in one piece and never left hanging by its cables.
  • Older Renault radios lock and ask for a four-digit code after the battery is disconnected. A memory saver keeps the car powered during the swap so the code is not needed.
  • One-touch windows and the sunroof can lose their end stops. Holding each switch fully up for a few seconds after the change teaches them again.
  • On Stop and Start models the current sensor on the negative lead is fragile. The clamp is loosened at the post, not levered off.

Signs a Renault Latitude battery is on its way out

  • The steering feels heavy for the first seconds and a power steering warning flashes on start-up, then clears.
  • Stop and Start is shown as unavailable for days at a time, even after a long drive.
  • Central locking answers slowly and the radio loses its clock after a start.

What the Renault Latitude takes

As a saloon, the Latitude uses a mid-size battery that is quick to reach and quick to swap. Daily commuting in slow traffic is what wears it out here.

Versions of the Latitude from about 2015 onwards are more likely to have start-stop and a battery sensor, which means an EFB or AGM battery and sometimes registration after fitting.

Across the range the case sizes are the common European ones. Symbol and the smaller petrol Captur usually carry an L1 or L2 of 50 to 60 Ah. Duster and Megane sit at L2 or L3, 60 to 70 Ah depending on engine and year. The Koleos, with its 2.5 litre engine and heavier equipment, takes an L3 of about 70 Ah. Stop and Start cars use the same case in EFB. Renault changed fitments between facelifts, so the technician reads the label on the fitted battery before the new one comes off the van.

Renault Latitude battery: FAQs

What battery does a Renault Latitude take?

It depends on the model year and engine. The technician confirms the exact size and technology from the battery already fitted or from the chassis number, then fits the same specification. For the Latitude we most often fit Varta, Bosch, Exide.

How long does it take to replace a Renault Latitude battery?

Fitting usually takes 15 to 30 minutes once the technician is at the car. Typical arrival in Al Taawun is 20 to 35 minutes, so most Latitude owners are driving again within an hour of calling.

Can you replace a Renault Latitude battery in a basement car park?

Yes. Send the tower name, level and bay number. If the van cannot enter, the technician carries the battery and tools to the car.

Will my Renault radio ask for a code after the battery is changed?

On most swaps it will not, because the technician keeps the car powered with a memory saver while the old battery comes out. If the battery was already completely dead, older Renault radios may lock and ask for their four-digit code. The code is on a card in the owner's pack, and newer touchscreen units do not need one.

Does a Renault Duster need an EFB battery?

Only if it has Stop and Start. Older 1.6 and 2.0 litre Dusters without the system run happily on a standard maintenance-free battery. Later turbo versions with Stop and Start left the factory with EFB and must get EFB or AGM back.
