Car Battery Warranty Explained: What Is and Is Not Covered
By the Al Taawun Battery team. Last updated
Short answer
A car battery warranty covers manufacturing defects and a battery that can no longer hold charge, confirmed by a test. It does not cover damage, deep discharge from lights left on, a faulty alternator or the wrong battery for the car. Batteries fitted by Al Taawun Battery carry up to 24 months, and a claim starts with a WhatsApp message and a test at your car.
What does a car battery warranty actually cover?
A battery warranty is a promise about how the battery was made, not a promise that it will never go flat. It covers faults that come from the factory: a weak weld between cells, a plate that sheds its active material too early, an internal short, a case or terminal that leaks without having been knocked. These faults show up as a battery that will not accept or hold a charge even though the car is charging it correctly.
The proof is a test. A conductance tester measures the battery's internal condition and compares it with the rating printed on the label. If the battery has been charged and still reads well below its rated cold cranking amps, or one cell has dropped out, the tester reports it as failed and the warranty applies.
What is not covered by a battery warranty?
Anything that was done to the battery, as opposed to built into it, falls outside the warranty. A flat battery is not automatically a failed one either. A discharged battery that recovers after a proper charge has no defect, so there is nothing to claim. The common exclusions are these.
- Physical damage: a cracked case, melted or bent terminals, harm from a loose clamp or an accident.
- Deep discharge: headlights, a boot light or a dashcam left running until the battery is empty, especially when it happens more than once.
- A faulty charging system: an alternator that undercharges starves the battery, and one that overcharges boils it.
- Wrong application: a standard battery in a start-stop car, or a battery smaller than the car maker specifies.
- Long parking: a car left for weeks over the summer with nothing keeping the battery topped up.
- Tampering: opened vent caps on a sealed battery, added acid or water, or a removed date label.
How does a warranty claim work with Al Taawun Battery?
- 1
Message us
Send a WhatsApp message or call at any hour. Say what the car is doing and attach a photo of the invoice if you have it to hand.
- 2
The technician comes to the car
The test is done where the car is parked: your tower basement, the office or the roadside. You do not remove the battery or carry it anywhere.
- 3
Battery and charging system are tested
The technician checks the battery's state of health, then the alternator output and any drain with the car switched off.
- 4
You see the result
The tester reading is shown to you and printed. If the battery has failed from a defect inside the warranty period, it is replaced on the spot.
- 5
If the cause is elsewhere
When the battery is only discharged, or the alternator or a drain is at fault, the technician explains what was found and what will fix it.
Why do the test printout and the invoice matter?
The invoice fixes two things: the date the warranty started and exactly which battery was fitted to which car. Without it, nobody can tell whether the battery is three months old or three years old. Take a photo of it on fitting day and keep it in your phone, because paper fades quickly in a hot glovebox.
The test printout from fitting day is just as useful. It records the battery's measured health when new and the car's charging voltage at that moment. If a problem turns up later, the two printouts side by side show whether the battery has lost capacity on its own or whether the car's charging has changed. That makes a real claim quick to settle, and it protects you from being told a defective battery was simply misused.
Why is the warranty up to 24 months and not the same for every battery?
Warranty length is set for each product line, and it reflects how that line is built and what work it is expected to do. A premium range with heavier plates usually carries a longer term than the same brand's entry range. AGM and EFB batteries are made for the repeated restarts of start-stop driving, and their cover is set with that duty in mind.
Use matters too. A battery in a private car that does a daily run from Sharjah to Dubai lives a very different life from one in a delivery van or taxi that idles for hours, and commercial use often carries a shorter term. The honest way to state it is this: up to 24 months, with the exact length for your battery confirmed in the quote and written on the invoice.
Covered or not: common warranty situations
| Situation | Covered? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Battery fails a test after a few months with a healthy alternator | Yes | A battery that cannot hold charge under correct charging has an internal defect |
| One cell is dead and the others are fine | Yes | A single failed cell is a manufacturing fault, not wear |
| Headlights left on overnight, battery flat | No | The battery is discharged, not defective; it is recharged and retested |
| Alternator overcharging, battery case swollen | No | The damage came from the car's charging system |
| Standard battery fitted to a start-stop car | No | Wrong application; the battery was never designed for that duty |
| Cracked case or broken terminal after an accident | No | Physical damage is outside any battery warranty |
| Car parked for two months in summer, battery will not recover | Usually no | Deep discharge and sulphation from standing, not a factory fault |
| Battery tests weak after the warranty period has ended | No | Normal ageing in Gulf heat once the cover has run out |
How do I keep my battery warranty valid?
- Fit the technology the car was built with, and have the battery registered if the car needs it.
- Have the charging system checked when the battery is fitted, which is part of every visit.
- Drive the car for a proper stretch at least once a week instead of only short hops around Al Taawun.
- Before a long trip abroad, ask about disconnecting the battery or using a maintenance charger.
- Do not open, top up or modify a sealed battery.
- Call at the first slow crank, not after the third jump start.
