Polestar battery replacement in Al Taawun

A Polestar still has a 12V auxiliary battery alongside its high-voltage pack, and that small battery is the only one a mobile service deals with. In Al Taawun we test it where the car is parked and replace it on the spot when it is a standard 12V unit. If it is a maker-specific lithium part, we advise you and arrange recovery.

Polestar battery sizes and types

Auxiliary batteries are small. Where a Polestar uses lead-acid, it is typically an AGM or flooded battery of about 35 to 60 Ah, in a compact DIN or JIS case, chosen for steady cycling and not cranking power. Where it uses a 12V lithium battery, that part is specific to the maker and has its own built-in management, and a lead-acid battery cannot be substituted for it. The technician checks what is fitted, reads its label and tells you which case applies before recommending anything.

What we watch for when fitting a Polestar battery

  • Work is limited to the 12V circuit. The traction pack, orange cabling and service disconnect stay closed.
  • An electric car is never used as the donor for jump starting another vehicle.
  • A flat 12V battery is first supported with a regulated booster so the car can wake and its converter can take over.
  • If the car cannot be woken, it normally has to be lifted or moved on skates, not dragged, so the recovery truck is briefed before it enters the basement.

Polestar battery help around Al Taawun

Electric cars suit the Al Taawun to Dubai commute, but tower living brings its own 12V problems. Not every building has a charger in the basement, so a Polestar may spend long periods parked and unplugged, waking repeatedly to report to its app, protect the cabin from heat or record with its cameras. Phone signal can be weak on lower basement levels, and a car that keeps searching for a connection stays awake longer. If yours will stand for weeks, switch off the features that keep it awake and leave the main pack with a healthy charge.

How the battery and charging system work on a Polestar

Electric and plug-in vehicles run two systems. The high-voltage pack moves the car. The 12V system powers the locks, lights, screens, computers and the contactors that connect the main pack, and it is fed by a DC-DC converter instead of an alternator. There is no starter motor, so the 12V battery never delivers a big cranking current, but it is cycled gently all day and night as the car wakes to check itself or talk to its app. On a Polestar it may be a small AGM, a flooded battery or a compact 12V lithium unit.

Signs a Polestar battery is on its way out

  • The car shows a 12V or low-voltage battery warning, sometimes asking for service soon.
  • It will not go to Ready or unlock although the main pack has plenty of charge.
  • The app loses contact with the car, or the screens are slow and reset after it has been parked for days.

Where the battery sits in a Polestar

The 12V battery is usually under the front bonnet, behind a trim panel in the front storage well or near the base of the windscreen, and on a few models in the rear. High-voltage parts are marked and have orange cables, and none of them are touched. One thing changes the plan for a Polestar with a dead 12V battery: it may not unlock, open its front compartment or shift out of Park in the normal way. The technician uses the maker's emergency access points to bring 12V power to the car first.

Polestar battery replacement: FAQs

Does a Polestar really have a normal 12V battery?

Yes, every electric and plug-in vehicle has a 12V system for its computers, locks and safety relays. On some models the battery is a familiar lead-acid type and on others a small lithium unit. It can fail like any other 12V battery, and when it does the car will not switch on.

Can you jump start a Polestar that will not wake up?

A 12V boost is often enough to wake the car so its own converter can recharge the auxiliary battery. It has to be done at the correct 12V points with regulated equipment. The technician will not improvise if the access points cannot be reached safely.

Do you replace the main battery pack on a Polestar?

No. High-voltage packs are handled only by the maker's service network. We work on the 12V auxiliary side and, where the car needs dealer attention, arrange a recovery truck suited to electric vehicles.

Why did the 12V battery fail when the car is charged every day?

Charging the main pack does not guarantee the 12V battery is healthy. It ages from heat and from constant small cycles as the car wakes and sleeps, and after a few years it can no longer hold voltage. A test shows its condition in a few minutes.
